GLOBE joined other partners in Rio, including the Local Leaders Forum and ICLEI, for a dialogue on how Climate Action Weeks and Town Hall COPs are accelerating impact at the city level, fully reflecting the “Mutirão” spirit of COP30.
From Rio to London, Baku, Bangkok and Sydney, stakeholders shared how these community-led weeks of action and Townhall COPs are strengthening public participation, linking local priorities to national targets and accelerating implementation.
One message was clear: global temperature goals will not be met by negotiation text alone — what happens inside cities, and through collective action on the ground, is decisive.
Hosted by the Rio Chamber of Commerce and chaired by Malini Mehra (Curator, London, Rio & Baku Climate Action Weeks) and Kobie Brand, Vice President, ICLEI, the session brought together a powerful mix perspectives. Speakers included Tony Kay, Deputy Ambassador, UK Embassy in Brazil; Dr Jane Lomax-Smith, Lord Mayor of Adelaide; Dr Marcelo de Andrade, Co-founder, Rio Climate Action Week; and Leo Horn-Phathanothai, Convener, Bangkok Climate Action Week.
