Everything you need to know Rio Action Climate Week 2025

The inaugural Rio Climate Action Week (RCAW 22-29 August 2025) is taking place during Brazil’s COP30 Presidency as a key mobilisation moment to recommit to climate action and multilateralism ahead of COP30 in November.

Rio Climate Action Week is an independent initiative, in support of the Brazilian COP30 Presidency and in partnership with London Climate Action Week, with Pro Natura International serving as the RCAW Secretariat. It is an independent, non-partisan initiative, intended as the first of a multi-annual festival of climate action keeping commitments on track to deliver a 1.5C aligned, safe and resilient future for all.

Rio Climate Action Week is inspired by the convening success and impact of London Climate Action Week (now in its 7th edition), adapting LCAW’s methodology to the realities of Rio and Brazil. RCAW will leverage LCAW’s established platform, global reach, networks and experience for a more impactful inaugural Rio Climate Action Week in August 2025.

The two climate action weeks are also working to create complementary programming on key themes - including finance, forests, food systems, fashion, etc – to build a drumbeat of cascading action from LCAW to RCAW towards COP30 in November 2025.

Pro Natura International serves as the RCAW Secretariat, as E3G serves as the founding Secretariat for London Climate Action Week.

RCAW’s Organising Team serves to curate, organise and provide a platform and thematic structure for the Rio Climate Action Week of events. It is supported by a board of advisors who help to convene climate leadership from a variety of sectors, professions and communities.

The RCAW Secretariat and partners are responsible for curating the opening and closing events and Organising Team members will be organising their own events during the week, including some of the Flagship events at RCAW.

RCAW provides an open and inclusive platform for anyone who wishes to organise an event, as long they are registered and approved by the RCAW Secretariat. Event organisers themselves are responsible for organising and hosting their own event(s). These events can take place at any time and place during the RCAW dates.

As with LCAW, Rio Climate Action Week is being organised as a public good. It is open and free of charge to those who wish to use the platform for organising event/s. There is no charge to register your event on the official RCAW programme. Event organisers will, however, need to cover their own event costs and promotion.

For partnership opportunities to support RCAW and our community, please get in touch with the Secretariat: info@rioclimateactionweek.org

When registering their events on the RCAW platform, organisers can select to make their event ‘public’ and open to all, or ‘private’ for a specific group. Organisers can also highlight specific audience groups or sectors for their events.

RCAW event organisers can choose to make their event free or can charge attendees. This should be made clear in the organiser’s invitation process and clear on the RCAW platform.

RCAW event organisers can decide on what platform they use depending on which is most suitable for their event. Note: The RCAW Secretariat is unable to provide technical assistance in running events.

RCAW event organisers can decide on the length of their events and can decide to run multiple events. From LCAW’s experience, when running digital events, timeslots of 1 to 1.5 hrs are recommended.

RCAW welcomes a wide range of events, from panel discussions, digital campaigns, climate action pledges and report launches, to film screenings, theatre and music performances, to other arts and cultural events, sports and outdoor activities. The idea is to engage and mobilise society at every level, within legal limits.

The choice of format, therefore, is open to event organisers to design as appropriate to their desired outcomes. All events much be compliant with health and safety, and any other legal requirements set by the venue or municipality.

Check out the full programme on the RCAW website for more details, from 1st June 2025 onwards.

NB.: It is the event organiser’s responsibility to ensure that their event is fully compliant with venue/ statutory requirements, including permissions or insurance. RCAW cannot be held liable.

RCAW provides an open and inclusive platform as a public good, with a low barrier to entry. We ask that event organisers align with the ethos of what we are co-creating to help accelerate climate action and a just transition for all.

RCAW is not politically affiliated, and we welcome constructive engagement across the political spectrum, with dialogue grounded in reality. RCAW is collaborative and inclusive, ambitious, and solutions focused. We welcome healthy and vibrant debate with a diversity of views respectfully expressed.

While we welcome debate on climate policy, we cannot accept events which seek to undermine global commitments on climate action such as the UN Climate Convention’s Paris Agreement or seek to actively undermine climate ambition.

Registration for RCAW 2025 is now open and you can submit an event using the Register your event function on the website.

Flagship events are chosen by the RCAW secretariat based on the following factors:

  • Flagships (individually and as a group) are exemplar events that represent, animate and make a tangible contribution to climate conversations and priority action across RCAW themes, sectors and focus areas;
  • Events that amplify and enhance the RCAW story, identity and platform;
  • Events that live the RCAW ethos, through collaboration, innovation and inclusiveness. Organisers demonstrate an active commitment to contributing to and supporting RCAW and its community, through offering in-kind space, time and expertise, deploy their networks and outreach, convene and curate and support the overall development of RCAW;
  • Organisers should also clearly demonstrate their own climate action.
