As Brazil prepares to host COP30 in Belém, the country is stepping into a pivotal role in shaping global climate ambition. Over the past two years, the Novo Brasil – Ecological Transformation Plan (PTE) has laid the groundwork for a sustainable, low-carbon economy through innovative policies, financial instruments, and cross-sector collaboration. This event, hosted by the Ministry of Finance and supported by Directorate for the Development of Public Management and Educational Policies of Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV-DGPE), will take stock of the PTE’s achievements, address persistent challenges, and outline Brazil’s strategic priorities for COP30—particularly in advancing climate finance, just transition frameworks, and international cooperation.
The discussion will highlight how Brazil has emerged as a leader in green economic policy, from sovereign sustainability bonds to its pioneering Brazilian Sustainable Taxonomy and interoperability of carbon markets. Yet scaling these efforts requires deeper engagement with the private sector and civil society. The event will also serve as a platform to launch the PTE Public Monitoring Dashboard, a transparency tool to track progress, and explore the $1.3 trillion Baku-Belém Roadmap, which aims to align global finance with climate goals.
Thematic Focus:
The event will feature two high-level panels. The first, ”New Brazil: Two years of transforming the economy for fair and sustainable development,” will assess the PTE’s institutional and economic impacts, including regulatory milestones and lessons learned. The second, ”Towards COP30: Novo Brasil’s contributions to global climate ambitions,” will focus on Brazil’s role in mobilizing climate finance, fostering carbon market interoperability, and ensuring an inclusive transition. Speakers include senior officials from the Ministry of Finance, BNDES, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, and the COP30 Presidency, alongside private sector and civil society representatives.
Intended Audience:
This event is designed for policymakers, investors, financial institutions, NGOs, and academics committed to advancing Brazil’s climate agenda. By fostering dialogue between stakeholders, it aims to strengthen alliances and accelerate implementation of the PTE ahead and beyond of COP30.
Registration: Open to the public (via free registration link).
